FOR OLDER ADULTS AND THE PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THEM

A daily companion that talks with you, not at you.

Digital Companion is a voice-first check-in, a medicine reminder, a family line, and an honest way for a caregiver to notice a change — without cameras spying in secret, without a score, without a diagnosis it isn't qualified to make.

Free, runs in your browser. Works for one household at a time.

WHY THIS, NOT ANOTHER MONITORING APP

Most "AI care" tools compare a person to a chart. This compares them to themselves.

Your own baseline, not a national average

Daily check-ins build a private pattern for that one person. A change is measured against their recent weeks — never scored against strangers, and never turned into a competence rating.

Every insight shows its evidence

When the companion flags a change, it names exactly which areas moved and by how much, so a caregiver can judge it themselves instead of trusting a black box.

Nothing is silent

A help request, a check-in, or a camera alert always shows up in the activity log the same way to both people. No hidden monitoring, no side channel the senior can't see.

A TYPICAL DAY

Three moments, not a dashboard to babysit

Morning

"What's my first pill today?"

Anita asks out loud instead of reading a chart. The companion answers from her real schedule, then reminds her again if it's missed — and only tells her caregiver if it stays unrecorded past the usual window.

Midday

A face, not a phone number

Family video links and a big "call now" button sit where she can see them. No app-switching, no remembering a contact list.

Evening

Sixty seconds of check-in

Mood, sleep, appetite, a few taps. If tonight looks different from her recent pattern, her caregiver sees why — with her own note alongside it, not instead of it.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Everything sits in one place, built around one household

Voice companion

Speak instead of typing. Ask about medicines, the day's plans, or just talk — answers come from the household's real data, never invented.

Medicines & routines

Daily times, dose history, and a due/overdue view that's honest about what's actually been recorded.

Family & caregiver view

A paired caregiver sees the same records, phone and video links, and a shared photo gallery.

Personal pattern insight

Explainable check-in trends compared only to that person's own recent history.

Room well-being monitor new, opt-in

A camera watches for prolonged stillness or a fall-like posture and tells the caregiver. It's a heuristic prototype, not a medical device — see below.

Health journal & visit prep

Readings, symptoms, and a printable summary to bring to an appointment.

Photos & two quiet games

A family slideshow, a matching-pairs game, and short memory activities.

Built for accessibility

Large controls, high contrast, keyboard focus, and read-aloud throughout.

ROOM WELL-BEING MONITOR

What the camera feature actually does — and doesn't

Point any browser-visible camera (a laptop, a tablet propped in a room, or a WiFi camera that exposes a stream URL your browser can open) at a common space. With consent turned on, the companion watches — entirely inside that device's browser — for two things: nobody moving for longer than expected, and a posture that looks like a fall.

When either happens, it writes an alert into the shared activity log and asks the caregiver to go check. That's the whole feature.

Read this before you rely on it

  • It is a prototype heuristic, not a certified fall detector or medical device.
  • It will miss real falls and it will flag things that weren't falls. Never treat a lack of alert as "all is well."
  • Video never leaves the device — only a short text event does. But this doesn't replace a real medical alert pendant, a smoke detector, or a human check-in.
  • The senior always sees when it's on. It cannot be turned on without their screen showing it.

BEFORE YOU USE IT WITH REAL HEALTH DATA

This is a working household prototype, not a certified medical product or an emergency response service. It doesn't diagnose, doesn't score anyone's competence, and doesn't guarantee that a reminder, an alert, or a camera event reaches anyone in time. Keep existing emergency arrangements, alarms, and medical devices in place. Read README.md and FEATURE-COVERAGE.md for the full picture before relying on it.
